In the sixth meeting, we discussed the text “A Conceptual Model of Multiple Dimensions of Identity” by Susan R. Jones and Marylu K. McEwen.
After bringing a panorama of existing research and models on Multiple Dimensions of Identity, the authors develop research with 10 women through open-ended interviews and data analysis. From the categories that appear in the data analysis, they develop a conceptual model of Multiple dimensions of identity, in which there is a core, related to self identity, and the multiple dimensions surrounding it in a dynamic manner. They also consider the context’s influences on them.
The group discussion was mainly about the methodological decisions of the authors; their perspective on the salience of some identity aspects, that changes from person to person; and the influence of belonging in the interactions between the multiple dimensions.
