Seventh Meeting (24.3.22): Identity as a Multilayered Concept + Future Directions

In the seventh meeting, we discussed three texts aiming to approach identity in our different fields of study:
-      They Gon' think you loud regardless: ratchetness, reality television and black womanhood by Kristen J. Warner
-      On female identity and writing by woman, by Judith Gardiner
-      Identities in talk, by Charles Antaki and Susan Widdicombe

Different topics were raised from the texts. Following the first text, we debated if there is an authentic identity or if everything is "performance", the concept of ratchetness and its relevance to black women's identity, and the discussion on the definition of identity as a mosaic. The second text raised relevant aspects about the reception of texts and the different roles of the author and narrator in the discussion of identity in Literature. The third text provided a method for identity analysis, and we could visualize it in practice using one of the participant's research.

Our discussion focused on the fact that different authors and theories dealing with the concept define identity as a multilayered, fragmented mosaic. What would come next in the discussion and explanation of identity? Looking to answer this question, we dedicated the end of the meeting to searching for new research on identity and finding papers that bring new perspectives on approaching the theme.
