We were joined by a few new members for this meeting, so we started off with a few minutes of very short introductions. Following this, we discussed the article Alon Tal's article Addressing Desalination’s Carbon Footprint: The Israeli Experience. Water 10, 197 (2018). Our discussion ranged from the feasibility of transitioning Israeli desalination plants to renewable energy sources to whether Israel will need to consider supplying desalinated water for agricultural demand as well.
Following this discussion, Isaac gave a short presentation on his research project -- modeling the risk of soil degradation. The group discussion that followed was very productive and included a number of helpful suggestions, particularly how to model changes in rainfall patterns.
