מבט אינטרדיסציפלינרי על מערכת היחסים בין מדע, אקדמיה וחברה

אחת ההנחות בעולם המדע גוזרת שידע מבוסס על השדה ולא נוצר בו, דבר שלעתים יוצר חלוקה בין המדען להדיוט, ובין הסביבה למגדל השן. אף שנראה שישנה מגמה של שינוי באופן בו מדענים תופסים את מקומו של הציבור בעבודתם, עיקר ההתכתבות נשארת בגבולות העולם המדעי, ואף שתלמיד המחקר גדוש בידע, ידו קצרה בעולם המעשה. בהתחשב בכך, קבוצה זאת עוסקת בערך החברתי של ידע אקדמי ובערך האקדמי של ידע חברתי.

תוך התמקדות בעבודות החקר של המשתתפים ודרך שיתוף אקדמי, מקצועי וחברתי, הקבוצה דנה באופנים שבהם מתכתבים מדע ואקדמיה עם הספירה הציבורית, ומכוונת ליצירת שיח אינטרדיסציפלינרי במקביל לפעילויות חוץ מוכוונות מעשה המסתמכות על למידה משותפת. תחילה, יוצגו המסגרות הקונספטואליות של לימודי מדע, טכנולוגיה וחברה (Science, Technology and Society; STS) ושל הבנה ציבורית של המדע (Public Understanding of Science; PUS). מסגרות אלו יהיו פתוחות לשינויים בהתאם לתנודות בקבוצה.

מטרות הקבוצה הן מתן קול לידע המופק מהספירה הציבורית כאמצעי אינפורמטיבי שווה ערך לידע המופק עליו, ויצירת מסגרת אינטרדיסציפלינרית הלקוחה מעולם המעשה ומידע מבוסס ניסיון. באופן ספציפי, הקבוצה תהווה מרחב למידה לכל המעוניין להפיק מעבודתו האקדמית ערך מוסף גם מחוץ לגבולות האקדמיה. בכך, הקבוצה תהווה תשתית למחקרי פעולה שיאפשרו איתור צרכים והערכות מצב תוך למידה שיתופית עם הציבור הרחב. כך, יהיה ניתן לצור לא רק ידע מעוגן בשדה (Grounded Theory) אלא גם ידע שמתכתב עמו (Shared Theory).

הקבוצה תיפגש אחת לחודש בימי שישי.

An Interdisciplinary Observation on the Relationship between Science, Academia & the Public Sphere

One of the assumptions in the scientific world is that knowledge is created in the field but not created by it, something that may create a segregation between scientists and lay people, and between the public environment and the ivory tower. Though there seems to be a change in the way that scientists perceive the status of the public sphere in their work, the majority of their discussions stay at the boundaries of their scientific sphere(s). And while researchers may have advanced theoretical knowledge, such knowledge is neither easily applied in practical situations nor easily translated into non-specialist language.

Acknowledging that, this research and discussion group addresses the intersection between the academic and the public sphere. Through open conversations on the participants' works, and by academic, professional and supportive collaborations, this group aims to produce interdisciplinary discourse in addition to concrete contribution at the public sphere. In order to accomplish that, the tentative conceptual frames of the group are Science, Technology and Society (STS) and Public Understanding of Science (PUS). These frames may change in accordance with the dynamics of the group.

In its essence, this group is intended for all research students, from any department, who feel that the open discussions can provide additional value to their academic work. The main goals of the group are to actively acknowledge the informative voice of the public sphere as an equal companion to the academic information on it, and to create an interdisciplinary experience-based frame. Thus, we will be able to focus not only on grounded theory, but on shared theory as well.
