Transformations through Mindfulness – Society and the Self (Yael Malin – Education)
While mindfulness has become a booming industry over the last few decades, its roots are ancient, universal, and relevant to various schools of thought. Research points to many benefits derived from practicing mindfulness, from physiological and cognitive to psychological and spiritual. On the social level, mindfulness can improve pro-sociality; however, this aspect has not been well researched. Are these different benefits separate from each other? Or maybe they are all stemmed from the same roots of change? And what is this social change or value that mindfulness practice can lead us to?
This group of Chevruta will deal with these questions of the mind-body relation, well-being, and pro-sociality (e.g., empathy, morality) from different perspectives. The process will include guided meditation at the beginning of each meeting, which will be the starting point for a shared inquiry of the inherent and external truths. This will allow every participant to share his perspective regarding mindfulness from his field of research and learn from other fields. This group is relevant not only for participants who specifically research mindfulness but also for any researcher of well-being and pro-sociality.
