מדע חישובי מפרספקטיבה רב-תחומית (רשף מינץ – מדעי המחשב)

בדיסציפלינות שונות במדעי הטבע כגון פיזיקה, ביולוגיה, כימיה, ומדעי כדור הארץ שואפים להסביר את העולם ולהבין אותו טוב יותר. שיטות ניסיוניות חדשות מייצרות כמויות גדולות של מידע ומאפשרות לנו לגשת לפתרון בעיות גדולות מהכיוון החישובי. ככל ששילוב גישות חישוביות מתפתח בתחומים שונים, כך גדל הצורך בשיתוף פעולה מולטידיסציפלינרי.

קבוצת הדיון שלנו שמה לה למטרה ליצור רשת של תלמידי/ות מחקר ממדעים שונים ודרכה להכיר טכניקות חישוב חדשות. אנו נעסוק בגישות מחקריות שונות, נדון ביישומים אפשריים לכלים חישוביים שונים ובתקווה נקים שיתופי פעולה חדשים. הקבוצה שמחה לספק במה לסטודנטים/ות המעוניינים/ות להציג את מחקרםן בפני קהל רחב ולדון בגישות לעבודת המחקר שלהםן. נדרש רקע מתמטי/חישובי הגון.

The Computational Science Think-Tank (Reshef Mintz – Computer Science and Engineering)

Natural sciences such as biology, physics, chemistry, and earth science aspire to understand the world and explain it. New experimental procedures output vast amounts of data, which allows us to revisit some of the main questions of those fields. To do so, we need to combine expert knowledge of said fields with math and computer science tools. As the computational toolkit adapts to different fields, interdisciplinary sharing of concepts became a fruitful endeavor.

Our discussion group aims to create a network of students working in different sciences and acquaint them with each other's computational techniques. We will focus on different research approaches, discuss possible surrogate applications, and hopefully establish novel collaborations. The group is happy to provide a platform for students to present their work to a broad audience and examine it through multiple perspectives. Decent mathematical or computational background is required.
