“On the Brink of Change – Models and Mechanisms Behavioral Change” invites doctoral students from the social sciences, humanities, and exact sciences to an open discussion about what makes change happen  and what helps it last.
Is change a single turning point, or the accumulation of many small decisions? What moves people from thought to action – identity, social norms, sanctions, incentives, habits, or a sense of agency?
We’ll bring together theoretical perspectives from philosophy, psychology, law, economics and computer science, and look at different kinds of decisions where change occurs: starting to exercise, voting for the first time, quitting a harmful pattern, adopting a new habit and more.
In each meeting, we’ll explore and discuss change from a different disciplinary lens, define what counts as change in that context, and map the path from first steps to stability. The emphasis is on building bridges across fields, a shared language, and simple frameworks for thinking about the structure of initiation → persistence.
Open to doctoral and research students from all faculties who enjoy clear ideas, sharp questions, and examining a phenomenon from multiple perspectives.
