תיאור הקבוצה

ביוכימיה היא מדע החוקר תהליכים כימיים ותכונות כימיות הקשורים ליצורים חיים, אולם היא מקיפה הרבה יותר מכך. תחום הביוכימיה כולל מגוון רחב של תחומי ידע כגון חקר של אורגניזמים, מקרומולקולות, מסלולים, ושיטות מחקר שונות. מפני שהביוכימיה היא נגזרת של הביולוגיה והכימיה, היא משלבת תחומים אקדמיים מגוונים ביותר – החל בכימיה אורגנית ופיזיקלית ועד לביולוגיה מולקולרית ומבנית. לפיכך ישנה חשיבות עצומה לשילוב של שיטות, גישות ורעיונות שונים במהלך עבודת הדוקטורט על מנת ליצור מחקר מצליח בתחום כה אינטגרטיבי.

לקבוצת דיון זו שתי מטרות – מצד אחד להפגיש סטודנטים מתתי-התחומים השונים, החל מהמכון לכימיה ועד למדעי החיים, וכן להכיר את המעבדות השונות הקיימות באוניברסיטה העברית. נתמקד בהיכרות כללית עם נושאי המחקר של המעבדות השונות, השיטות בהן הן משתמשות והמכשור העומד לרשותן, בתקווה שזה יפתח אפיקים נוספים של מחקר לסטודנטים ויוביל לשיתופי פעולה נוספים בין המעבדות.

כמובן שבנוסף להצלחות ישנם גם לא מעט כישלונות המניעים את המחקר קדימה, ולכן מטרה נוספת של הקבוצה היא לתמוך ולתת מענה לסטודנטים בשלבי מחקר שונים, על מנת לכוון, לעודד ולחלוק ידע וניסיון קודם של סטודנטים אחרים. הקבוצה תשמח לתת במה לסטודנטים שרוצים לתרגל הצגת מצגות, פוסטרים ורעיונות כלליים מעבודת המחקר שלהם, ולתת אוזן קשבת לבעיות העולות בין אם במחקר עצמו ובין אם בעניינים אישיים העולים במהלך הדוקטורט.

The BioChem Think-Tank) Rosi Fassler - Biochemistry and Molecular Biology)

Biochemistry is the study of chemical processes relating to living organisms, however it is so much more. Currently, Biochemistry encompasses a wide range of interdisciplinary research including different organisms, macromolecules, pathways, and techniques. Due to it being a sub-discipline of both biology and chemistry, Biochemistry is in itself incorporative of different academic fields, ranging from organic and physical chemistry all the way to molecular and structural biology. Thus, it is important to combine different techniques, approaches, and ideas in order to successfully continue one’s research in such an integrative field.

This discussion group aims to create a network of students from different fields at the Chemistry and Life Science Institutes, familiarize them with one another and with the different labs and techniques that are at their disposal. We will focus on different approaches and machinery employed by the different labs, in the hope that this will open new research angles and lead to inter-disciplinary partnerships.

The second and most important aim of this group is to create a safe space and moral support group for fellow PhD candidates at different stages of their research, create collaborations between the candidates, and build long-lasting connections for future employment options. The group is happy to provide a platform for students who want to practice presenting presentations, posters, and general ideas of their research work, as well as to discuss different problems that arise throughout the PhD, whether professional or personal.
